Greetings, Funeral Business Builders!
Summer is over, and I’m back to creating fresh content for you.
Here are some important decisions I’ve made about the future of this newsletter…
Decision #1 – Back to a written newsletter
At the start of 2024, I started recording videos instead of writing a newsletter. I thought that would be faster but in reality, by the time I outlined the video, recorded it, edited it, transcribed it, and set it up on my blog, it took more time than I’d want.
Plus, when I checked my stats, it was clear that more people were reading the transcript than were watching the video. That makes sense given that I send the email broadcast at 7 am Sunday morning and many of my subscribers tell me that they read my newsletter while sitting in church.
Decision #2 – More commentary, less education
I spent some time this summer looking over the 250+ articles on my blog and the Google Analytics data. I found that the educational articles were popular but not as popular as my commentary on a current industry event.
Based on that tidbit, I will create a variety of educational series you can sign up for in addition to a weekly Sunday morning commentary newsletter. That way, if you want to learn about something like Google Ads you can sign up for that series (once I create it).
Decision #3 – Shorter newsletters
I will make a concerted effort to “get to the point” a lot quicker. Most of the articles on my blog are 800 to 1000 words, but going forward, I will aim for 250 to 500 words. Most people read these newsletters on Sunday morning; the last thing you need is a long dissertation.
That’s my plan for future newsletters. I have a list of topics prepared, but I’ll often look to my work with my clients for inspiration.
I’ll be back next week.
John
PS: If you have a specific topic you’d like my view on, email me, and I’ll add it to my topic list.
